On a day when the world weighs heavy, a young man finds respite in the smile of a stranger.
Day Release is the graphic-short-story version of one of the poetry collaborations my younger brother and I worked on together when he was alive. At the time he was being held in a psychiatric ward, so the title in respect to him is literal. The sentiment of not being comfortable in imposingly generic high-street stores was something we both shared, however. Even now I’m not really one for shopping.
Day Release was shortlisted for the Observer/Cape/Comica Graphic Short Story Prize, 2012; and displayed at the Comica Festival Launch & Prize Giving night at Foyles bookshop in London.
